The Bible says that because of our new identity in Christ and our citizenship in the Kingdom of God, we are strangers on this earth. This world and the value systems that govern what takes place here are in many ways foreign to us. We are called to be different and live differently because of our relationship with God.
But while we are strangers on this earth, we still have to live in and relate to the world around us. So, how do we do that? How do we live in this world in a manner that pleases and honors God? What responsibilities do we have in relation to the world around us? Those are just some of the questions that prompted the Apostle Peter to write the letter of 1 Peter and are going to be some of the questions that we answer over the next several weeks as we study through the book.
