Through the years Grace Community Bible Church (formerly Trinity Church of Lake Country) has known God’s leading through many periods of transition. The church itself began when a group of families in the Lake Country area felt a need for a Biblically centered community church.
After much prayer, the first service was held on October 4, 1981, at the Glenn Reeves Fine Arts Center on the campus of Boswell High School. Many friends and well-wishers attended that service. The following Sunday, the new church met at the Saginaw Community Center. In the meantime, leaders began looking for a permanent meeting place and also an interim pastor.
In just a few weeks, Dr. Lacoste Munn, a local Baptist professor, was hired as the interim pastor. The church soon leased a duplex at 7206 Vista Cliff for midweek meetings and Sunday Bible classes. The Recreation Center at 8889 Random Road was rented for Sunday worship services.
In 1982 Mike Downey became the first pastor but served only a few months. Dr. Munn returned to serve as the interim pastor till December 1983. Ron Horton began his service as pastor in January 1984.
In late 1984, the Recreation Center became unavailable for church services, so the church moved its Sunday services to the Y.M.C.A. on Boat Club Road. Services were held there for several months.
Sensing the need for a permanent church facility, the church family in the spring of 1985 exchanged previously purchased land on Boat Club Road for the land and properties known as the Lake Country Estates Recreation Center on Random Road. The building was later remodeled adding Sunday School rooms, an enlarged worship center, and finally an office complex.
In November 1998, the church revised its by-laws and made a commitment to relocate outside the Lake Country development when God provided the opportunity.
It would be in September 2000 that Grace Community Bible Church would embrace its new name and settle on the transfer of its property on Random Road for ten acres of land on Bailey-Boswell Road (just west of Boswell High School). By God’s grace, the first service in this new, debt-free facility was held on Sunday, April 14, 2002.
In October 2005, the church completed its newest addition and began using the spacious offices and classrooms the church had prayed for, given to, and worked together on so as to provide for growth and expansion of our ministries.
God is to be praised for His faithful guidance and generous resources over the years as this church has sought to discover and grow in its various spheres of fruitful service.
