This is Me: Living My Second Life Now
The world of virtual living came into focus with this fall’s release of the movie Surrogates. The movie is set in a world where everyone lives virtually. Real people sit at home while living out their lives through physically perfect mechanical representations of themselves or a surrogate. This type of living is really attractive because you can be who you really want to be and do what you really want to do unhindered by our present physical limitations and the pressures that we now face in life. This type of living is not just something that is coming in the future. It is here now.
You can download on your computer a game called Second Life which advertizes itself as “the internets largest, 3D virtual world community. In Second Life you can get the job that you always wanted to have. You can drive the car you have always wanted to drive. You can have the relationships that you always wanted to have. You can live the life that you always wanted to live. And everyday millions of people retreat into this virtual world.
This got me thinking. What if we could live our second life now? I am not talking about driving the fancy car or living in the big house, but what if we could really have the relationship with God that we always wanted to have? What if we could really do for God all those things that we want to do, but to this point haven’t because of all the stuff in this life that holds us back?
In the month of January we will be looking at some of the things we have all wanted to do for God. Things like being an effective witness for Christ and having an undivided heart. We can live our second life now.
